Maybe you just watched “Prefontaine” on Satellite tv or maybe you’re just trying to get in better shape but if you’ve been training for a marathon you know it’s a long road. When the big day comes you’re going to want to fuel up right – here are a few things to keep in mind when you’re eating on marathon morning:
CARB LOAD: This is a great tip – the night before. Don’t eat anything carb-tastic the day of the race and be sure to hold back on the heavy sauce if you do decide to go with pasta the night before. ON the day of, stick to a banana in the morning and maybe some oatmeal.
COFFEE IS FINE: If you can stomach it, coffee can actually give you a small caffeine boost you may need to get the race done. Stick to one cup only and go easy on the sugar and cream.
GOO: If you haven’t tried Goo Gel yet, get some BEFORE the race to get used to it. It’s calorific though and can get you through a mid-race slump so take it if you’re offered.

Anyone who has ever served in the military knows just how grueling a boot camp workout can be. The sheer intensity of these exercises will whip you into the best shape of your life. What makes these type of workouts so unique is that they focus on natural body movements. This means a lot of body calisthenics like pushups, pull ups and core exercises like sit ups and crunches. There is also a lot of running that tests your endurance level. A boot camp run will make you feel like your heart is about to burst out of your chest. However, it will greatly enhance your overall conditioning.

As you can see, these workouts do not involve weights or other equipment. This is a good thing because it means you can get a boot camp workout without the need for expensive machines or weights.

These workouts will not only build muscle and burn fat, it will also make you functionally stronger. There is a reason elite military units subject themselves to these kind of workouts: because they work. You do not have to be a Navy Seal or Green Beret to train like one. Try a boot camp workout for yourself, and you will quickly see why they are so effective.

Get the right pair of running shoes on the first try! Check out these tips.

Type of Runner: What runner are you — Road runner? Trail runner? Know exactly what kind of running you-re going to do.

Separate: Get running shoes to RUN. Don-t use your running shoes for anything else OR use other shoes you already own as running shoes.

Arch shape: Make a footprint. See if the arch is high, normal, or flat footed.

Pronation: On the heel of the foot, how do you land when walking? Is it neutral pronation, over-pronation, or supination/under-pronation?

Shoe Type: Neutral pronators need stability shoes. Supinators need cushioning shoes. Over-pronation needs motion control shoes.

Shoe Size: Get a few sizes bigger than your shoe size for wiggle room when running.

Shop Time: For best results, shop in the afternoon or evenings.

Who Cares About Money: Buy a shoe based on comfort first, then price second.

Take Necessities: Take your socks and orthotics with you. Try the shoes on with it.

Take it For a Spin: Try on the shoe and walk around. It should feel comfortable right away.

The right running shoes takes careful planning and a good knowledge of your feet.

It is worth to note that running is one of the best exercises you can engage in. It will cost you nothing to become a runner. something common with most runners is the joint pain. How can you protect the join pain and enjoy your laps too? Here are some of the effective tips to ensure that your joints are protected while running:

Select the running shoes carefully. Find the shoes that offer you maximum stability while running. These shoes will protect your ankles from injury. They will also protect you from shock between the surface and your leg while running. Good running shoes will help you from exerting more pressure on the knees and this will protect you from injury.

The second way to protect your joints is changing your running surface. Running surfaces are different. Ensure that you run on grassed surfaces since they will offer a soft shock on your joints. Hard surfaces will have a high impact on your joints hence resulting to joint pain.

The third way of protecting your joints is to avoid rotating your knees and hips while running. Avoid short turnarounds since it can result to joint pains. Run straight and take note of sharp corners at the running field.More info here: Giveaway: Merrell Barefoot Running Shoes
